Frustration

I absolutely hate with a passion packing. Although it is a great chance to purge items I don't need or use, it is a tedious and boring job. If I could just get my room packed I would feel better, but with all the laundry, it seems an insurmountable task. I emptied out my desk today, that was a task. I also packed all my small appliances. Mom has everything I will need. So, I guess next is starting to take things to the storage units.

On Doy's front, he is not getting the hours he was promised when he started this job. This week he worked a total of 23 hours. His company just landed a contract on the Indian reservation and they told the guys in a meeting that the hours were about to explode, but since then he worked 17 hours. So, he is going to have to start applying for other jobs. He is not going to leave this one without something else for sure, but he is starting to wonder if God gave him this job as a way to get to ND to meet new people and get new opportunities. Either way, we can not move up there until he has something with dependable hours. Keep ya posted. I am not giving up hope, I feel that ND is where God is leading us, but perhaps this job is not where Doy is supposed to be long term.

So here's what is happening now

Doy is enjoying his new job and has adjusted to the 2 hour time change finally. Brooklyn however still wants to call Daddy every morning at 7 am, which is 5 am his time. She waits until the evenings though. Doy is anxious for us to get up there and thinks we will really like it. I do too, because I do my research. There is no way that I would move 1300 miles away without fully checking out everything from schools, activities, churches, libraries, etc.

We have decided to go ahead and move out of our house at the end of this month and place our stuff in storage. My parents have graciously agreed to let us stay the remainder of out KY time with them. Aryssa will have my old room and Brooklyn and I will stay in their basement, which is a studio apartment space. This will save us about 1200 a month so in the 2 months we are there, that is 2400 which will pay the moving costs from here to there with some left over. Then all the money Doy makes over our budget will go into a savings account to cover our rent, utilities, etc that we will need. It will be a rough couple of months, but it will be worth it to be a family again. And more importantly, a family that will be together every day.

So, one of my goals while I am living with Mom is to learn how to sew. I know how to sew, just not very well. But she has a sewing machine and I have some patterns I am dying to make. Hopefully do some crafting too. I will keep you posted.

Update from North Dakota

Doy made it to North Dakota on Sunday evening without problems. He was not happy with the amount of gas mileage his F150 got, but thought it was a nice drive. He spent Saturday and Sunday sleeping in the back of his truck (he has a topper) and said it was bitter cold, mostly due to the air mattress being cold. Yesterday, he moved into his new apartment which he will share with 3 other guys. There are 2 sets of bunk beds in one bedroom, but it is cheap and nice he said. Doy says that the guys he shares an apartment with are all over 50, but that is okay with him. He is just there until June when we get up there.

Doy reports that Dickinson is a lot like Ashland. Its a college town so there are a lot of bars, restaurants and stores. Today Doy went to the recreation center in town and was super impressed. You have to check this place out. http://www.dickinsonparks.org/WRCC.asp It is no more expensive than the Y here and we are so looking forward to joining!! Afterall, with 7 months of winter, you have to have indoor entertaiment. There is also a indoor ice skating rink, Doy hopes that Brooklyn will become a Olympic figure skater. Not if she is clumsy like Aryssa and I.

That's all for now. I am starting to pack some stuff up and will have some stuff at a yard sale at my parents house later this month. I think moving is a great way to de clutter.

Well, Doy is on his way

My husband left this morning for Dickinson, North Dakota. He starts his new job Monday morning. He is nervous and excited at the same time. He hates that he will not see us until June, but knows that once we get moved up there, he will see us every night. Plus there is Skype. Its not the same, but better than nothing.

Doy and I have been married for 4 and a half years now. Doy working out of town is not a new thing to us as he is a truck driver and usually works out of town. But this is the first time since we got married that he will be gone for this long. We will not see him until the second week of June.

Unfortunately, I did not have the winning numbers in any order to collect any money on the 640 million dollar Jackpot. I did not really want to hit the Jackpot, but I would have liked to win about 10,000 dollars so we could move up sooner than later. Oh well, God will continue to provide for us.

Next up, starting to pack.

So many decisions

Moving is hard work. Trying to figure out everything from 1600 miles away is even tougher. Right now, it looks as we will not be moving until the middle of June. My mom's family Family Reunion is in Nebraska in June and Mom and Dad were planning on going up for that the week before the reunion. So, it seems to make sense for us since we are planning on going to the reunion, to move then.

This is the way I figure this can work, Mom can drive her car up, I will drive my car up and Dad and maybe Aryssa will drive up in the U-Haul. Mom will go on to Lincoln, while Dad and the rest of us go on to Dickinson. We will spend a day unloading the truck then start back to Lincoln in my car. After the reunion, the kids and I will head back to Dickinson to get organized and unpacked.

Doy is going to be working insane hours, so the unpacking will be on Aryssa and myself, but that is the way we like it anyway, because then things are where we want them. That is the plan at least, but with a two year old under foot, it will not be easy.

That is our plan so far. I will keep you posted.

The Big News

A few weeks ago, I posted on my Facebook page that some major changes were brewing in our lives. I did not elaborate because at the time, nothing was official, but now it is. Doy is taking a job in Dickinson, North Dakota and the rest of the family will follow this Summer.

Yes, you read that correctly, we will be moving to Dickinson, North DAKOTA. No, we are not crazy and yes, we are aware that it is VERY cold there in the winter and there is a lot of winter there. However, the upside to this move is that Doy will be home every night, he will not have to drive 60 miles to work one way, he will make a huge amount of money and have lots of room to advance in the company. Doy is going to go up in the next week or so and start working and saving money so that the rest of us can join either in May or July, depending on if I can find a job here in Ashland.

Those of you who know me, know that I am extremely attached to my parents and so are my kids. That will be the single hardest part of moving. I am used to seeing my parents at least once a week, but we can always Skype and call and such. I will miss all my friends as well, but I will still be on Facebook and back to visit a couple times a year. I can make friends pretty easily too, so my plan when I move is to get involved somewhere and meet people.

It is going to be a HUGE adjustment in all our lives and I plan on documenting it for you all to share with us, starting with this announcement and hopefully throughout this moving process and our first year in ND, especially the winter. I do ask that everyone prays that this adventure is worth the price, but I believe this is where God wants us to go, so we will go.
